Hi,
On the recent episode, ai inspired 006, we voyaged into the labyrinth that is AI regulation and moral/ethical implications discussed by Mo Gawdat (a former Google X officer working with AI and Stephen Bartlett of a Diary of a CEO podcast). We’re doing our part in response to Mo’s call to action to discuss the dangers of AI. We examined the roadblocks in our journey, each layered with complexities due to the mosaic of societal contexts - nations, communities, faiths, and governmental systems - each crafting their distinct set of challenges.
Mo Gawdat introduced an intriguing perspective - the idea of an AI tax. An 98% levy on AI-derived profits proposed to cushion those hit hardest by job losses due to automation. But does this raise the specter of companies seeking tax havens? Our discourse unfolded around this delicate balance.
We also tread on the thin ice of big tech companies applying their own restraints on AI progress. Could this pave the way for smaller players to leapfrog the tech giants, we wondered. It's a multi-dimensional issue that underlines the need for broad public discourse, all the more reason for our collective engagement, and this podcast.
We shed light on the poignant words of a former GoogleX executive, and his warning tale highlights the pressing need to confront the swift metamorphosis of AI.
Shifting gears, we pondered the potential of AI in classrooms. The ChatGPT plugin's innovative approach to facilitating student engagement captivated us. But the educational arena isn't all sunshine and rainbows; we acknowledged the presence of skepticism. Until AI gains full endorsement, we passionately advocate for collective effort to expose our children to the transformative power of AI in a responsible and ethical manner.
We underscored the vast spectrum of individuals in the present day AI ecosphere, from doomsday preachers and utopian dreamers to the playfully curious and charlatans. We warned against pseudo-experts peddling substandard AI prompts and stressed on empowering children with more than just basic AI skills - action with reason, thoughtfulness, care and compassion.
Thank you for standing with us, AI Inspired. Together, we can navigate this AI maze, shed light on the unexplored, and chart a course for a prosperous future for humanity, the environment and this crazy world we cohabitate.
Stay Curious!
